La Giralda is the name given to the bell tower of the Cathedral of Santa Maria in Seville. It is perhaps the most reconized symbol of Seville. The lower two thirds of the tower correspond to the minaret of the old mosque of the city, from the late twelfth century, in the Almohad period, while the upper thirdwas added in during the Christian era. At its cuspid is a ball which calls Giraldillo, a statue that serves as a weathervane and was the largest bronze sculpture in the European Renaissance.
